EU-FarmBook: supporting knowledge exchange between all AKIS actors in the European Union

EU-FarmBook is an ambitious 7-year-long Horizon Europe project (2022-2029) working at regional, national and European (EU) level to build an easily accessible and user-friendly digital knowledge exchange platform for farmers, foresters and other rural businesses.
HCC role in EU-FarmBook

HCC leads the “Knowledge Networking and User Feedback” work package in the EU-FarmBook project. This role is central to ensuring strong connections both inside and beyond the project: linking the platform’s development and promotion with Horizon Europe projects contributing content, while also engaging the wider community of potential users eager to access and apply this knowledge.

HCC Key contributions:

  • EU-Farmbook ambassador

HCC serves as EU-FarmBook Ambassador for Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Slovenia. In this role, we act as a bridge between EU-FarmBook and national Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS), ensuring the platform is adapted to the unique dynamics of each country.

  • Knowledge upload and networking

As Ambassadors, we support Horizon Europe, Horizon 2020, and EIP-AGRI Operational Group projects in sharing their practical results online, while fostering stronger connections between research, innovation, and farming communities across the region. Our knowledge upload and networking work, has so far, brought 250 Horizon projects, 61 thematic networks, 919 OGs with a total of 5.132 contributions in the EU-FARMBOOK Platform.

  • Reflection and Refinement workshop

On 18–19 February 2025, HCC proudly hosted the Second EU-FarmBook Ambassadors’ Reflection and Refresher Workshop in Brașov. Bringing together 29 participants from across Europe, the event combined strategic discussions with authentic local experiences. Over two days, Ambassadors reviewed immediate goals, refined the upload strategy, and explored ways to validate end-users while improving the multilingual functionality of the platform. A field visit to HOF Hărman – Local Gastronomic Point offered participants the chance to experience Romanian rural life and highlighted the role of local products and sustainable practices in knowledge exchange. Through interactive sessions, reflection exercises, and collaborative brainstorming, the workshop delivered concrete next steps to enhance user experience, strengthen content quality, and ensure EU-FarmBook’s long-term relevance for farmers, foresters, and advisors across Europe.

EU-FarmBook Project summary

The EU-FarmBook project builds on the results of the EUREKA project that proved the feasibility of building an online open-access knowledge reservoir by building a pilot version (https://eufarmbook.eu/).

The new EU-FarmBook platform will have greatly enhanced functionality to make the knowledge it contains more findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable, while also adding additional features for users to interact and explore innovative ways to solve their daily challenges.
